Lagos- The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) welcomed the team's promotion to the International Cricket Council World Cricket League Division 5.
Nigeria qualified for the event scheduled for Malaysia in 2014 following an impressive outing in the league division 6 competition in the United Staes this past weekend.
The NCF board, led by Engineer Emeka Onyeama, expressed satisfaction at the promotion.
"The dream of the team is to emerge as one of the top world cricket playing nations in the near future," the board stated.
In the three Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 matches held at the weekend, Nigeria beat Argentina, Jersey strolled past Vanuatu while Bahrain got the better of Kuwait.
In their match against Argentina, Nigeria fielded first and bowled out Argentina for 185 in 46 overs, with Oluseye Olympio returning stunning figures of 6 for 23.
Lucas Paterlini was Argentina’s top-scorer with 48. In response, Segun Olayinka scored an unbeaten 94 as Nigeria won by eight wickets.
