EDU: JAMB meets CBT centre owners over 2017 exams

Posted By: KIZZYERISKY - 8:21:00 AM

LAGOS — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has said arrangements had been concluded to have an interaction with owners of Computer Based Test (CBT) centres in the country ahead of the 2017 UTME.
The board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, made the disclosure in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), yesterday, in Lagos.
According to the statement, the meeting which comes up today at the University of Lagos, is to fine tune all areas of challenges geared towards conducting a hitch-free examination in 2017.

It said the meeting would determine the number of centres to be used for the 2017 all CBT Unified Tertiary Matriculation Board (UTME) exercise.
It said: “These are centres that must have a minimum of 250 and above terminals (computers). “We will not hesitate to disqualify any centre that falls short of the requirements.”
“We will equally not compromise on the selection of these centres as they will fully be responsible for our registration and examinations and other related responsibilities that they will be saddled with from time to time as we introduce new measures.”
It added that the board decided to come face to face with owners of these centres to ensure it got first hand information on the challenges they face in the course of the examinations

NEWS: The inertia of President Buhari

Posted By: KIZZYERISKY - 2:53:00 AM
FOR more than a decade of his political odyssey in the struggle for Nigeria’s presidency, people of various political background stayed the course, not so much for his famed integrity but in the belief that President Muhammadu Buhari has the political will and grit to fundamentally shake up the country’s outlook, liberate it from conventional thinking and decisively transform the dominant mindset, which has sustained a precarious and unproductive trajectories of our post-colonial history. However, given the inertia that has trapped the president Buhari government currently in near atrophy especially in the economic and social fronts, it is easy to forget his breakthrough in a core area of national emergency, especially in substantially degrading the nihilist and extremist insurgents that have for years ravaged the North East and existentially threatened the rest of the country.

Critics claimed that president Buhari has only recalled his attack dogs, which he has used to undermine the regime of former president Goodluck Jonathan. However, if any one person or group of persons could orchestrate such deadly insurgency and then walk about freely, then, the government under whose watch, it happened does not deserve a day longer in office. However, while the end of Boko Haram insurgency or its considerable degradation cannot amount to the end of Nigeria’s security woes, curtailing the rebellion of the narcissistic insurgents is a bold step in ensuring national security.

But relinquishing the lives saved from the atavistic Boko Haram and almost at the same time, surrendering it to the pangs and ravages of hunger, poverty and destitution through policy timidity on economic and social fronts by a government that seemed to be mortally afraid to rigorously exert itself on new ideas stands logic on its head. The ideological fudge and denials which has characterised successive Nigerian governments have constantly denied them the grasp of the fundamental disconnect and the prospect of objectively and scientifically comprehending the contradictions in the countryand arriving at the relevant policy instruments to address them. President Buhari who at earlier times appeared to have, had the political will and strength of character to break from the routine, is now boxed in, to the inertia engendered by the customary gridlock of elite trade-offs, wedded to the well travelled path of regimented neo-liberalism and the consequent unimaginative policy alternatives.

While president Buhari personally indulge himself in the moral outrage of the failures, corruption and inadequacies of the previous governments, his patriotic vision of a resurgent nation is hampered by a compelling deficit of analytical insight to the objective condition of the Nigerian situation and the poverty of scientific and intellectual rigour to define alternative road map. The president Buhari’s regime prospect to develop a redemptive paradigm is further marginalised by its own trappings to the symbols of state power. Having a soldier stand annoyingly behind him at every public forum, or a protocol personnel drawing a seat for him, seem an eternal obsession to the rituals of power instead of the purposes of power, which drive home, the image of a political dinosaur, reclining in the comfort zone of power without responsibility.

The political capital of president Buhari’s electoral revival seemed to have run its course and the perennial exhortations of a socio-economic new day that is in the offing by the regime operatives is sounding ever more, hollow. Because of its self-imposed parochialism, the president Buhari’s government has not lent itself adequately to the understanding of the international context of Nigeria’s socio-economic malady. The terminal crises of capitalism at its last stage, is producing lethal socio-economic lethargy in its periphery even as its centres are engulfed in paralysis that is producing the monster of right wing populist movements, whose latest reincarnation is the electoral triumph of Mr.Donald Trump in the United States of America.

The clear lack of comprehension of these key global dynamics and its impacts on policy choices means that policies are critically deficient of its fundamental aggregates and would therefore be unable to resolve issues of public goods and services which is government’s primary domain of responsibility. The most important challenge to reviving Nigerian economy is to produce an economic map, identifying resource-catchment areas, per region or state and developing the relevant physical and institutional infrastructure conducive to its maximum exploitation. Consequently, a road map of industrial clusters to be fed by the already identified resource zones would result in an unprecedented massive economic activities sucking in, an avalanche of manpower both skilled and unskilled.

The corollary to these chatter-box of economic activities would be the emergence of dynamic internal market. These scenario will reduce the devastating impacts of imploding capitalism from its core centers of imperialist triad; United States of America, Western Europe and Japan.
The challenge of developing a national industrial policy that would considerably inoculate Nigeria from the vagaries of imploding capitalism at its last stage requires the transformation of the existing mind-set derived from the ideological strangle-hood of neo-liberalism. It requires the philosophical freedom of the thought, beyond what we know and basically, a bold experimentation driven by a scientific interrogation of the current national condition and the prospective options to transcend it. But the government of president Buhari administration, seized by the fantasy of its moral righteousness, encumbered by its self-style Puritanism of been the chosen one and above all, possessed by the delusional dogma of its redemptive mandate, would hardly see the opportunity of injecting unconventional, radical views to break the gathering moss of the regime complacency. Meanwhile, the All Progressive Congress (APC), the historic frame work of political opportunism that brought the government to power is cracking up so quickly.

The usual booty sharing formula, which is at the core of elite predatory politics in Nigeria, is tearing the party apart. With a party befuddled by gregarious hedonism and a government dogged by inertia and ineptitude, Nigerians are in for a long haul of socio-economic destitution. The political frame work of conventional liberal democracy has no more bright prospects to contain and accommodate the broad aspirations for popular political participation of Nigerians. The institutions of political representation over the years have become the hell-holes of elite corruption and have become neither representative, accountable nor responsible.
The aspirations of the broad masses of the Nigerian people including workers, peasants, intellectuals and professional elites require prudent search for a framework of inclusive, consensual and consultative mechanism in which the people are the key driver of the process. As John Staurt Mill, argued that “a people may be unprepared for advanced institutions, but a discussion on it is a necessary part of the preparation” it is long overdue for us to challenge our collective imagination on the alternative frame work of political organization and participation beyond the regimented and corrupt liberal democracy whose origin is the toxic colonial domination. President Buhari’s government ramblings amidst policy inertia, in spite of an original huge political capital, means we must rethink our politics which turns hollow and sterile, inspite,of the most patriotic vision and noble intentions. As ASUU consults stakeholders to prevail on FG
By Henry Umoru & Dayo Adesulu

ABUJA—SIX days after a meeting between the Senate and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU ended in stalemate, another interface between both parties again ended in deadlock yesterday.
At the end of the eight hours meeting which ended 8.32 pm last night, there was no concrete agreement between the university lecturers and the lawmakers. Addressing journalists after the meeting, Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Education, Senator Jibrin Barau, APC, Kano North, said both parties agreed with some of the issues raised, except one that had to do with their earned allowances, adding that they (ASUU) were going to make consultations with their members on the way forward. ASUU-STRIKE Barau said: “You can see we have spent about 8 hours in this very important meeting.
We have deliberated and thank God we have dealt with all the issues and we have agreed in all the issues except one. “We have adjourned to make consultations, every sections of the meeting will get back to his constituency and report to it what transpired.
At a later that we will reconvene to thrash out the remaining issues. “Is about the earned allowances that need to be paid the university lecturers, the government due to the paucity of funds proposed certain amount of money but ASUU thought otherwise that the money was quite inadequate but he’s going back to his members to report to them and make consultations and later get back to us. “But we do hope they come up with good news that they have accepted the government offers” Efforts to speak to ASUU to get their own side of the story proved abortive as the president refused to speak with journalists.
Meanwhile, ASUU yesterday said meetings and consultations were ongoing to ensure that government did the needful. Speaking with Vanguard yesterday, ASUU-UNILAG Chairman, Dr Laja Odukoya, said the one week warning strike of ASUU was still on, adding that there was possible of an indefinite strike should government fail to do the needful.

EDUCATION: ASUU strike: Students appeal for FG’s urgent intervention

Posted By: KIZZYERISKY - 5:14:00 AM
Some students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) have appealed to the Federal Government to urgently look into grievances of striking lecturers to forestall incessant strikes in universities.
The students made the appeal in Nsukka on Tuesday while reacting to the ongoing warning strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The President of the Students Union Government (SUG) in the university, Mr Emmanuel Chukwu pleaded with President Muhammad Buhari to urgently address the grievances of the striking lecturers. Chukwu said that this had become necessary in order to prevent disruption in the academic calendar of universities in the country.
Miss Amarachi Okafor of the Department of Psychology urged the Federal Government to dialogue with ASUU not to allow the strike snowballed into an indefinite one. Okafor also pleaded with ASUU to consider the plight of students who would be spending extra years in the university, especially in this period of recession. “The longer the strike lingers, the more the rate of crimes will increase and parents will be paying more for extra years spent in school,’’ she said. Another student, Mr Emmanuel Ochi of Mass Communication Department pleaded with ASUU to consider the interest of students in order not to constitute a setback to their academics.
“I want the Federal Government and ASUU to resolve their misunderstanding amicably in the interest of students and tertiary education in this country. “Students have suffered enough over incessant strikes and we do not want a repeat of what happened in the last administration by ASUU,’’ he said. Academic activities have continued to be paralysed at the UNN over the warning strike by ASUU. The chairman of UNN-ASUU chapter, Dr Ifeanyi Abada told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that academic activities grounded in the university in compliance of directive by the National Executive Committee of ASUU. “NEC made efforts to resolve this issue with government but it remained unyielding because of its insensitivity to issues concerning education.
“Since government failed to do the needful, ASUU is left with no option than to proceed on a one week warning strike and failure to meet with our demands we will go on an indefinite strike,’’ he said. Abada said that ASUU was not taking it lightly with government on issues raised, especially the demand that universities be exempted from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy
. “The strike compliance in UNN is total, no lectures, no examinations no departmental and faculty meetings as members will not participate. “UNN chapter will not renege on the directive of the national body till government addresses all the issues raised. “Our monitoring team is moving round and any lecturer found teaching will be sanctioned accordingly,’’ he said. Is Your Google Playstore Not Working? Learn How to Fix It Here

Posted By: KIZZYERISKY - 3:05:00 AM
Have this ever happened to you? You find an interesting application and try to download it, only to receive a cryptic error message containing seemingly random numbers from Google Play Store. Or you try to open Google Play Store and it’s not responding… It can be pretty annoying right?

An android user who hasn’t experience the Google Play Store crashing or misbehaving will first of all think his/her device is bad. Whether Google play store won’t open on your device or you are simply experiencing an error message, this is what to do to fix such error.
1. Clear the Google Play Store cache
In most cases, you can stop the Play Store faltering just by emptying the app's cache. The cache is a storage area that temporarily holds data so it can be quickly retrieved without needing to be reloaded. To empty the cache:
Go to Settings > Apps. Tap All > Google Play Store then finally tap the Clear cache button.
2. Clear out your Play Store data
Deleting your data from the Play Store works along the same lines as our first tip, but is more drastic. It sets the app back to square one and gets rid of your saved information, hopefully including whatever data was causing the problem.
As with the previous tip, go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Store, but this time tap Clear data.
3. Uninstall Play Store updates
Sometimes an update to your Play Store app will do more harm than good. If you think that's the case, it makes sense to uninstall that update.
Go to Settings> Apps > Google Play Store, then tap the button that says Uninstall updates. This will revert Google Play back to the original version (as it appeared when it was first installed on your device),
Next, you'll need to find an older – but still recent – version of the Play Store app to download. The best way to do this is by going to the Google Play Store page on APK Mirror and download it from there.
4. Clear data and cache on Google Play Services
Go to Settings> Apps > All > Google Play services then tap the Clear cache button. If that fails to solve the problem, come back to this page and tap the Clear data button.
5. Reset your Google account on your phone
. If your Play Store app still isn't working, then you may need to refresh your Google account on your Android device. To do this, remove your account then add it again.
>>Go to Settings > Accounts then tap Google
>>Tap the Google account you want to remove, then tap the menu icon (three dots) at the top right and tap Remove. Do this for every Google account on your device.
>>Next, go to Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Google and follow the on-screen steps to re-add your account.
6. Enable download manager
There is a chance that the Play Store will stop working if your download manager is disabled. If this is the case, the solution is simple.
>>Go to Settings > Apps / Application Manager > All > Download Manager.
>>If Download Manager is disabled, you'll see a button marked Enable. Simply tap this button to switch Download Manager back on.
7. For rooted users: edit hosts file
If the Play Store won't load for you and your device is rooted, you have an even simpler solution on your hand: just modify your Hosts file for a quick fix.
>>Go to your preferred file manager, then navigate to system/etc/hosts and select the Edit option (this will vary between devices).
>>Add a hashtag (#) to the front of the second set of numbers and save your changes (i.e. change from 127.0.0.1 to #127.0.0.1). Reboot your device; re-add your Google account and your Google Play Store problems should be fixed.

How To Auto Share Blog Posts on Facebook and other Social Networks

Auto Share Blog Posts on Facebook and other Social Networks

If you think writing a blog post is over when you hit the publish button, Hello I think you should take a shower.
Blog posts, (no matter how epic they may be) are useless unless you promote the heck out of them.
If you don’t know how to manage time to promote blog posts, where to share your blog posts or are looking for ways to automatically share your blog posts on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, etc., this is the post you had been looking for.
This post tells you how to manage social media promotions the smart way.
Writing the blog posts were always the mid-step to successful blogging, the other half includes sharing the post with other relevant people, and readers who would find it useful. Unless you are one of the kinds of sites John Morrow has or Darren Rowse has, it’s you who has to tell people that your blog is updated not the other way round.
Social media is no bad and is equally a blogging strategy like research or SEO. But, my point is why you should waste time on a thing that can be automated or left on auto-pilot. Here are some kickass tips on promoting your blog posts automatically as soon as they are published on auto-pilot.
Read mindfully the tips for social sharing of your blog post given and you will save hours in promoting your blog post on social media.

Auto Submission to Multiple Channels:

After writing a blog post, we have the tedious task of promoting our post to maximum social networks and other blogging communities. Here is what I use to get the hard work minimized. In this section, we will talk about how to submit posts without any work on our end, automatically as and when it is published.
Onlywire is an awesome tool for bookmarking your posts to nearly 30 sites simultaneously without even a single click. All you need to do it get an account on the platform and add your blog RSS to your profile.
Onlywire is probably the best free alternative to automated social posting. It is available as web form, a share button for your website and also as a browser extension and WordPress plugin. It posts up to thirty networks for free, and up to 50 networks, and three RSS feeds (that means three blogs) in paid mode. For 90% of us free mode is enough.
2) Twitterfeeds
Tweeterfeeds is a good service to make automated publications on social media. It can automatically publish blog posts to your selected social media channels as and when your posts happen. Twitterfeeds recognizes blog post through your blogs RSS feeds and then promotes them to either or all of your social media channels.
You can publish your blog posts to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook pages. The advanced settings of twitterfeed allow you to choose what is published post title + post description or only description. You can also have settings of posting specific posts or excluding them based on keywords.
Hootsuite is just more than an auto poster to social networks. It does pretty more than just sharing and includes tasks like scheduling updates, monitoring social analytics, etc. You will read more about other awesome features of HootSuite later in the post.
For now the auto-posting feature of HootSuite is not as bad as twitterfeed. You have got more channels to promote your stuff like the Google plus pages, and LinkedIn company pages that twitterfeed doesn't allow.
Moreover, you can have separate settings for separate social media channels so that your tweets are different from your Facebook updates and vice versa.
Jetpack is a special plugin especially for WordPress bloggers that are yet to explore the rich functionalities of WordPress.org.
Jetpack is like a backpack that has almost everything you need. The publicize feature of Jetpack allows you to automatically share your WordPress posts to various social media channels too.
Although it may seem lucrative but as they say all things that come free come with a hidden price. People using the jetpack plugin complain that they have been cheated by jetpack that uses your brand power to promote WordPress.com, which is its parent company.
Yes, when you post an update via jetpack the status appears as “Jack posted on WordPress” instead of “jack posted on yoursite.com”, the link also shows no sign that it is from your blog. So if you are okay compromising your brand with free stuff you can opt for jetpack otherwise as I said SNAP PRO has no substitute.
Publicity that initiates after a small social action:
Triggering on social action means you do a small deed and gets huge social shares by default. Though this is not essentially auto-posting but comes in the dimensions of automated social shares. There are many sites that are community-based, and you post each other’s stuff and in return they post yours. This can strategically use as an automated process by giving at least 15-20 minutes week time and gain auto shares and tweet through the week.
Triberr is a social network/community for bloggers.
You can use it to get in touch and build relationships with influencers in your niche. Once you have a set tribe of your own or are a member of any tribe there, you have to invest as little as 10-20 minutes a week to interact and share the stuff of the tribemates.
This will bring you on their radar, and they will start sharing your posts as and when they are live.
Triberr is also RSS based so if someone has put you on auto post your posts get shared to their social networks (Twitter, Facebook) as it is caught by the RSS reader in triberr.
SocialAdr is just like other tweeting services like Justretweet. Here you are expected to share other people stuff (as I said, never invest more than 20 minutes in this), and they will share your stuff. It is on a point basis where you are deducted with one point (you earned by sharing other people’s posts) for each share of your own post.
It has one benefit that you can add various social media channels and not only Twitter. SocialAdr as of now supports many channels like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Ello to name a few.
Viral content buzz is co-founded by Ann Smarty, a household name for expert bloggers. Here you get the awesome service of getting shared by industry influencers alone.
It works on a point basis, and it gives you points based on the followers you have on a social network. If you have 25000 followers on Twitter, it will give you some 5 points (approx.).
4) Buffer
Buffer is a scheduling and bulk social posting tool that has both free and paid plans. You can manually add links and posts with only text or pictures on it or use its browser extension to share a web page directly on the social profile. Through buffer, you have to literally invest less than 60 seconds to schedule a page to be shared across different social channels and that too at different times for the week.
The new scheduler allows you to schedule updates as well as customize it according to your platform and that too at your preferred time of the week. Investing less than a minute can give you unlimited social sharing automatically for the time coming.
Doshare is a must-have tool for people concentrating on Google Chrome. This tool helps you to share and schedule your updates to Google Plus. These posts will then be shared automatically to your profile at the set time.
Hootsuite is the undisputed king of automatic social sharing tools. It has a hugely user-friendly interface and has much better features than buffer has. You can publish to various channels with a single click and it also allows automated sharing via the RSS feeds as we discussed above. I love this feature that ensures automated post sharing plus scheduling plus analytics all under one hood.
Hootsuite allows you to promote blog posts across multiple social networks, empower your team by assigning tasks to each of your teammates, in-depth analysis of your shares, vanity URL and much more. Why don’t you try all these features for free for a full month by signing here?
Over to you
The ultimate list of social sharing tools (automated) goes on, what’s important is you should choose one that is power packed and value for money.
There is no point in wasting time in manual labor when investing a few bucks can get the task done automatically and that too in a very efficient way.
For me, I trust a tool that powers social management of brands like WWF, Virgin, etc. I suggest you to try Hootsuite and that too for free (for a full month).
